TAI Balkans Fellowship

In partnership with House of Good Tones

WITH VISITS TO EL SISTEMA SERBIA (MUSIC ART PROJECT) & EL SISTEMA CROATIA (SO DO HRVATSKA)

May 2019

Our partnership with House of Good Tones features the unique opportunity for musicians and educators to collaborate with a multiethnic and reconciliation music program with students from ages 2-17 years old. House of Good Tones is an el-sistema inspired program working to reunite war-torn communities through music and positively affects hundreds of youth in Srebrenica, Bratunac, Potočari and Skelani, municipalities of Bosnia & Herzegovina.

TAI fellows lead classes, rehearsals, instrument sectionals, teach private lessons, work with the HGT faculty on professional development, give workshops, and perform with and for the students, families, and larger Srebrenica community.

During the day, TAI Fellows are honing their teaching skills through collaborative workshops, visiting local cultural sites like the Srebrenica Genocide Memorial, and working with and alongside other fellows and students of House of Good Tones. At night, fellows are absorbing the TAI curriculum which prepares the next generation of musicians with tools for the classroom, being a global citizen, and using one’s artistry for community development.

As TAI Balkans Fellows, you will be housed in an apartment located within the school center of House of Good Tones. HGT is located in the city center, next to the Municipality of Srebrenica and across the street from a coffee shop. In the distance, you can see churches and mosques alongside a beautiful mountainside of the town. Tourism trips for this fellowship are to Mostar, Bosnia & Herzegovina; Belgrade, Serbia; and Split and Zagreb, Croatia.

In addition to working with House of Good Tones in Bosnia & Herzegovina, we will also be visiting El Sistema Serbia (Music Art Project) and El Sistema Croatia (SO Do Hrvatska).
