TAI Peru Fellowship
In partnership with Centro Cultural Centenario de Chimbote & Arpegio Trujillo
GUEST FACULTY: NDINDI KTONGA
2018 & 2019

Our partnership with Centro Cultural Centenario de Chimbote features the unique opportunity for musicians and educators to collaborate with orchestral students from ages 12-21. Centro Cultural Centenario de Chimbote is a community institution for arts, education, and culture. Their programming impacts thousands in Chimbote, Peru.
TAI fellows lead orchestral rehearsals, instrument sectionals, teach private lessons, work with the CCC faculty on professional development, give workshops on chamber music, and perform with and for the students, families, and larger Peruvian community.
During the day, TAI Fellows are honing their teaching skills, collaborating with other fellows and students, and practicing their Spanish. At night, fellows are absorbing the TAI curriculum which prepares the next generation of musicians with tools for the classroom, being a global citizen, and using one’s artistry for community development.
As TAI Fellows you will be housed in an apartment located within 5 minutes walking distance to the music school. The charming neighborhood includes several restaurants, fruit stands, and 2 parks.
All housing, food, in-country transport, an excursion day trip to ruins & beach, professional headshot, and TAI curriculum workshops are included in the program tuition fee.
Our guest faculty for this year will be Monique Van Willingh!
Originally from South Africa, Monique Van Willingh is a musician, educator and advocate for social justice through youth development and teacher training. In her position as Director of Music and Social Change Programs at Longy School of Music of Bard College, She oversees Longy’s social justice, community and education programs. Monique is a graduate of the Sistema Fellows Program at the New England Conservatory of Music and completed her Master of Arts in Teaching Degree at Longy School of Music of Bard College.
